This project renovated the existing infrastructure to provide a new, 2 story student recreation center with fitness rooms, exercise classrooms, basketball facilities, swimming pool and sand volleyball courts. Technological advances were utilized throughout the facility such as biometric hand scanners for entry, filtered water fountains and flat screen monitors with touch screen technology to reduce paper waste and provide energy efficiency. The challenges on the project included phasing, communications, DSA approvals, staging and safety. The University added a state of the art AV system throughout that included a media wall and a LEED kiosk with live energy performance data. The project was aiming for LEED Silver status but was awarded LEED GOLD status due to the extensive use of daylight harvesting, sophisticated lighting controls, light pollution reduction, recycled building materials and water reclamation. Morrow Meadows was awarded the 2011 NECA Electrical Excellence award on this project.
